Many people write articles and or other online content these days either because they want to make money online using Internet marketing, or simply because they want to share their creativity and ideas with others. Just do a search on just about anything and you get thousands, millions, and sometimes even billions of search engine results. Even if search engine results are in the thousands, it is a lot of competition to be up against. Whether you are a fellow Huber, blogger, or content writer you want your hub, article, blog or whatever online content you are writing to get noticed and read. After all, you are publishing your writing so that people can read it. It doesn't matter if you write to make money or just because you want to share your creativity and ideas with others. The bottom line is that you want people to read your HubPage, article, blog, or other online content because without those views, you cannot make money with writing nor can you share your creativity and ideas.

Almost every seasoned online content writer knows how important a search engine ranking placement (SERP) is, and they know that the only way to get a good SERP is if they optimize content to make it search engine friendly. However, depending on where you are publishing your writing, there could be other page ranks such as hub scores, that you need to worry about as well. The good news is that you can optimize your content to satisfy your page ranks and hub scores all at once as the algorithms that determine hub scores and SERP is pretty much the same.

So how do you optimize your online content to get the search engines to give your particular hub, article, blog, or whatever online content you are writing a good page ranking, and if you are a fellow hubber, a good hub score to go along with that page rank? Well, it helps if you have a little understanding of how the page ranking algorithms like Google, PageRank, Alexa Rank, Yahoo, Bing, and other search engine rankings as well as hub scores work. Before I get started, as to not confuse anyone, there are a few things I’d like to make clear. This series that I am writing to provide "white hat" (meaning search engine policy friendly) SEO tips to optimize whatever type of online content you are writing (not just for authors on HubPages) to improve the ranking your site has on the search engine results. Therefore when I say any of the following terms individually I am referring to any and or all of the above: HubPage, hub, article, blog, web site, site and all other online content writing. I have a tendency to interchange them periodically, depending on how it relates to what I’m trying to say. I have four (4) pages worth of "white hat" SEO tips, however, articles of that length can lose the reader's interest, since I want people to benefit from these SEO tips I have decided to break it down into a series. Now without further delay, let's get started, shall we?

How Do the Google, PageRank, Yahoo, Bing, Alexa Rank, and HubPages Page Ranking Algorithms Work?

A Page rank and hub score let you know how actively viewed your article is by how high up your placement is on the search engine results, and in the case of hub scores, how high a number you have next to your HubPage title. Page ranks and hub scores are very similar to each other; they are both based on all the same, yet, extensive range of different criteria, very much like the criteria that a reader would use to determine a good web site . The criteria that a page rank and hub score are based on include, but may not be limited to: The amount of traffic you get to your article, reader response to your article, freshness and uniqueness of your content, topic, title, URL, popularity and competition of keywords, writing skills, language skills, and last but definitely not least, reputation in the online community. However, some of the criteria may vary a little from page rank to hub score, so I’ll explain them a little more so you can get a better understanding of how they affect your page rank and or hub score, allowing you to fully optimize online content easier, making it search engine friendly, as you will know exactly what the search engines are looking for.

Manipulate Your Search Engine Ranking and Hub Score with A Little Keyword Play

Warning: This won’t be the only mention of the term “keyword” as you continue reading about SEO tips, you will hear a lot of keyword this, or tag that, as keywords (also known as tags) are one of the most effective white hat SEO tools that you can use to optimize your content to improve your search engine ranking. However, you can’t just go and pick a list of any keywords to use and expect to have the best page ranking. You see, search engines like to factor into your ranking the popularity and competition of keywords used. The more people who use a particular keyword search term to find a topic, the more popular the keyword is, just as the more sites indexed under that keyword search term the more competition there is for that keyword. If you want a good page ranking, then you need to do some keyword research before you decide on what keywords will best optimize your content.

Google’s keyword tool is free and great for keyword research, allowing you to see the popularity and competition of keywords, cost per click (which lets advertisers know how much they are looking to pay if they were to bid on that keyword), and it can help you find other keyword search terms that you may not have thought of before. There are several other keyword tools which content writers can use to optimize articles so that they have a better search engine page rank as well, and sometimes using more than one keyword tool can provide you with more keywords that have the popularity you need but not as much competition to face.

Alas, there is still another aspect about the keyword that the search engine web crawler (or search engine spider) factors into your search engine ranking. The search engines’ web crawler seems to consider that if the same keyword search term is used several times throughout the content, then the content must be relevant to that particular search term and is of quality that a reader would want to read . Notice how I made bold the part about being a quality that a reader would want, as search engines will punish you and diminish your search engine ranking if the same keyword search term is used as if it were a broken record.

Need More SEO Tips?

Thank you point2make, I'm glad that you enjoyed my hub. I realize that a lot of what you write does quite well with trafic, as your writing is more then a pleasure to read, however I'm sure once you get started implementing these white hat SEO tips you will start to see even more traffic to your articles. There is a bit of effort involved, however, the reward is worth it. I still have quite a few articles that I have to go through and optimize, but I have been working on the optimization of a few of them, and have been seeing quite a bit more traffic. I'm going to have to update this series from time to time, as not only would I like to add images of the results I've been getting, but I do have one or two more SEO tricks up my sleeve that I would like to share. I figured it would give my content a good updated for pleasing the search engines, as well as it allowed for me publish this series, as I really wanted to get this out to people after reading a few hubs that were saying that you shouldn't worry too much about hub scores.
